Press Release, U of M Fans Requested To Show Their
Colors By Attending Legacy Golf Fundraiser
BRAINERD, MN July 1, 2005
Are you a U of M fan who bleeds maroon and gold? Do you also like to
golf?
Then the Legacy Courses at Cragun's needs you to come out and support
Gopher Sports by attending the fourth annual University of Minnesota
Gopher Golf Fundraiser at the Legacy Courses at Cragun's in Brainerd on
Friday, July 15.
According to Dutch Cragun, there are currently 30 teams signed up, but
this year Cragun's would like to increase the attendance and the
fundraising total.
Cragun stressed the event is not just for University of Minnesota
alumni.
"The tournament is for anybody who is interested in Gopher Sports and
helping the U of M golf program improve. We're going to have a number of
folks attending who never went to the university, but are just
interested in helping the program survive," Cragun commented.
"Individuals and twosomes are also welcome, in addition to teams."
The tournament starts at 11 AM with a golf clinic conducted by Gopher
golf coach Brad James and attended by other U of M sports notables. This
45-minute demonstration and tip-filled seminar will provide some
valuable information on the game. Then the action commences at Noon with
a shotgun start tipping off the Four-Person Scramble on the Dutch Legacy
course.
A social hour starts at 5 PM, with dinner and awards commencing at 6 PM
in the Legacy Pavilion. This year's prizes will once again include
popular Golden Gopher football and basketball tickets. Many former
Gopher athletes will attend, including football greats Chip Lohmiller
and Greg Larson.
The cost for the event is the same as in 2004: $135 per golfer or $540
per team of four. Non-golfers are also invited to join the event during
the social hour and dinner for just $29 per person. Cragun's will also
help solo or twosome-attendees by matching them with other golfers, to
fill out a foursome.
"I'm once again going to be making an intensive effort to contact the
local Gopher gang to see if we can count on them to attend," said Cragun.
"If U of M graduates from the Brainerd Lakes Area are interested in
coming out, we could really use their help to make this tournament even
more successful than in the past. We're asking that they also contact
other local Gophers they know to sign them up for this worthwhile
cause."
